BROADWAY PROJECT: May - Peter and the Starcatcher

Like many of the shows that have taken part in my Broadway Project,
Peter and the Starcatcher is one of my favorites!
I was so excited to make them cookies. The show is so fun, and I knew the cookies would be, too!

The prequel to Peter Pan focuses on a no-named boy and his two sidekicks on a journey across the sea.
They meet a girl named Molly, the daughter of a ship captain, and starcatcher-in-training.
Molly has to keep the "Star Stuff" from the bad guys because of its special powers.
It doesn't show up too well in the pictures,
but I put a little star stuff (dry gold luster dust) on the star cookies!

They land on a tropical island, and one of the "Lost Boys" finds a pineapple that he holds on to for dear life, even though he is unsure of what it actually is. There is also a great big pineapple adorning the proscenium of the stage.
This article discusses the symbolism of the pineapple in the show.

Sporting an hilariously huge, drawn-on mustache and an ill-fated right hand,
the ultimate bad guy of the show is Black Stache,
played by Christian Borle, currently of "Smash" fame.
They've had a lot of fun with mustache marketing for the show, so what else could I do, but...?

Mustache Pops!

And I made my own cookie cutter for them!

AND my friend McKenzie is the Production Assistant on the show,
so she brought me backstage to meet the actors and take some fun pics!

Isaiah Johnson looking dapper... and hungry!

With Christian Borle

With Teddy Bergman, Adam Chanler-Berat, Rick Holmes, and Celia Keenan-Bolger

They were a hit, and it was so much fun meeting them all! If you're in town, go see the show now!!

WHAT I'M UP TO: Chimichangas and Zoloft

I am currently the Assistant Stage Manager on Chimichangas and Zoloft, a new play written by Fernanda Coppel playing at the Atlantic Theater Company Stage 2.

We've been in tech all weekend, and we start previews on Wednesday!

I'm so thrilled to be working on this show, not only because it's a really great piece and a wonderful group of people, but also because the Atlantic is where I got my start in stage management. After I graduated from NYU, I did a Stage Management Fellowship at the Atlantic for a season, and during that time, the seed for Curtain Up Cookie Design was planted! You can look back at my first ever blog post, to see how it all began! I've still got a lot to learn, but I've come a LONG way since those first cookies!

Here's a little blurb about the play. Come and see it!

After the disappointment of her 40th birthday, Sonia leaves her family and goes on a prescription Zoloft and greasy chimichangas binge. Meanwhile her daughter Jackie and best friend Penelope team up to get Sonia back home.

Their fathers continue their ongoing infatuation with each other as the girls struggle to keep the families intact. This irreverent story examines happiness and sexuality through the eyes of two brazen teenagers.

BROADWAY PROJECT: April - Leap of Faith

Tony Award Nominations were announced on Tuesday!!! Along with exciting nominations for CurtainUp favorites Once, Peter and the Starcatcher, Venus in Fur, and Laura Osnes for Bonnie and Clyde, one of the nominees for Best Musical is the new screen-to-stage adaptation Leap of Faith.

My friend Rachel is the Child Wrangler over there, so I made them cookies just in time to celebrate their nomination!

The letters of the show's logo match the crazy awesome disco-ball jacket
that Raúl Esparza wears in the show,
so naturally I had to make cookies to match, too!

I've been loving the Luster Dust lately, so this project was a lot of fun. And a lot of work!

Seems like the cast really enjoyed them!

Leslie Odom Jr.                                                    Hettie Barnhill

Dennis Stowe & C.E. Smith                                                                  Talon Ackerman & Kyle Brenn

Congratulations to Leap of Faith on their Tony Nomination!
