BROADWAY PROJECT: July - Bring It On: The Musical

A brand new musical is hitting the Broadway stage.
Bring It On: The Musical is currently in previews at the St. James, and they are BRINGING. IT.
The songs are awesome, the choreography is kickin', it's funny as hell, and the cheering is KICK ASS.

They've got a crazy talented cast and a creative team to die for: In the Heights' Lin-Manuel Miranda (Music & Lyrics) and Andy Blankenbuehler (Director/Choreographer), Next to Normal's Tom Kitt (Music), Avenue Q's Jeff Whitty (Book), High Fidelity's Amanda Green (Lyrics). Sorry, but I am totally geeking out over these guys! And yesterday I got to share my cookies with them and the incredible cast!

So the story goes... Campbell is captain of the Truman High School cheerleading squad...

...until an unfortunate turn of events causes her to transfer to Jackson High, where she creates a rival squad.

They compete for the National Cheerleading Championship title through singing and dancing and cheering and flipping and throwing people 20 feet in the air. It's awesome.

These cookies are based on the squads' uniforms
(designed by the wonderful Andrea Lauer who I had the pleasure of working with on Unnatural Acts).
You can check out production photos HERE.

And my friend Cherie, the Music Assistant on the show and a stage manager and photographer extraordinaire
(Check her out at http://www.cheriebtay.com!!)
took these amazing pictures of me with the two lead actresses and the ever-awesome, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

With Taylor Louderman, who plays Campbell

With Adrienne Warren, who plays Danielle
(I'm pretty sure the guy in the background is reacting to the cookies on the table!)

With Lin-Manuel Miranda, Composer/Lyricist

The show officially opens on August 1st, so go check it out!

OPENING NIGHT COOKIES: Stand Tall @ NYMF

The New York Musical Theatre Festival has begun! Each year the festival showcases 30 new musicals from up-and-coming artists. Next to Normal and one of my favorite shows, [title of show], are among the musicals that came from the festival to make it big on Broadway.

This year, Stand Tall is one of the participating musicals.

This rock-and-Roll David and Goliath story is fun for the whole family,
and they wanted to celebrate opening night with some rockin' cookies!

Apologies for the funky lighting in the pictures. The color scheme is black and purple, but in most of the pictures the purple looks blue, so I tried messing around with them a bit.

And I found this awesome iPhone app. called Pic Stitch that lets you put your pictures together in fun collages.

Happy Opening to Stand Tall!!

4th of July - Margarita Cupcakes

I hope you all had a happy and safe 4th.
My friends and I had a picnic in Prospect Park, and I had been dying to make these ever since I saw the recipe,
so while not exactly red, white and blue, I couldn't resist.

There are so many recipes for Margarita Cupcakes, I just sort of made one up based on a few that I found. I'll definitely switch it up a bit next time I make them, but they were delicious. Just a hint of tequila and lime. Yum!

And what margarita is complete without a little garnish?

So, I made candy lime slices to add to the cupcakes.

Happy Holiday!
