The Book of Mormon: Lawrence's Last Show

My friend Lawrence Stallings is an Original Cast Member of The Book of Mormon,
and today he is playing his last show!
As a thank you to the incredible cast and crew he has worked with for the past three years,
he asked me to make some Goodbye cookies.

He wanted them to be themed to the show, but more specifically to his character,
so we had a big brainstorming session and came up with some fun designs.

He wears a wig with dreadlocks in the show, so we thought that would be a good centerpiece.

Lawrence is in the ensemble and plays one of the villagers who the Mormons are helping on their mission.

Lawrence's character holds a chicken throughout the play, so I was like, "I can make chicken cookies!"

This was the first time I've painted on cookies, and I was really excited to try it.

He also shouts "He has risen!" in the show,
so I wanted to include that, using the orange starburst that the show uses in their advertising.

Most notably, and perhaps gruesomely, Lawrence's character gets shot in the head by a warlord,
and red foam springs from his wig to look like brains. Gross!
But, we thought it would be funny to include some of those red squares,
since they are so identifiable with his character and "all over the theater!"

Join me in wishing Lawrence a wonderful last show and great luck in all to come!

WHO'S READY FOR SOME SONNET KARAOKE!?

Tonight my friends at Facing Page Productions are holding a fundraiser for their 2014 Company's Marathon.
The Company's Marathon involves reading all 37 of Shakespeare's plays through without stopping!

Facing Page held their first Company Marathon last year, and as they gear up for the second time around,
they are holding a night of Sonnet Karaoke to raise money for the event.
These cookies will be part of their raffle!

#RunCM2014 will be their hashtag for the event.
Follow along on twitter next April!

OPENING NIGHT COOKIES: Fun Home

There is a stunning new musical opening tonight at the Public Theater.

adapted from the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel,
is making it's world premiere Off-Broadway.

An autobiographical exploration of Bechdel's relationship with her father and what she discovers about him after his death, as well as her discoveries about her own sexuality, Fun Home (her nickname for the funeral home her father runs) is a deeply moving play that is definitely on my Run and See list
(currently playing through November 17)!

My friend Alexandra Socha, who I worked with on The Dream of the Burning Boy
plays Alison at age 19, and requested cookies to celebrate their Opening Night!

I made some cookies to reflect the cover of the graphic novel.

And some of the image on the Playbill.

Happy Opening, Fun Home!

CLOSING COOKIES: Choir Boy

On Sunday, the incredible run of Tarell McCraney's Choir Boy came to a close,
and I was so happy to make some cookies for everyone.

The play takes place in the all-male, African American Charles R. Drew Prep School.
The cookies are based on the ties and school crests of the uniforms the boys wore,
the school motto being "Proving men for tomorrow."

I'm so proud to have been part of this show!
If you didn't get a chance to see it,
you can watch their performance of "Motherless Child"
for the New York Times website here:

Bridal Shower Cookies - Jillian + Ryan

Two of my best friends from High School are getting married this Fall!
Last weekend we had a chance to celebrate the impending nuptials of one of the girls with a
beach bachelorette weekend, followed by a surprise bridal shower.
And part of the surprise was cookies!

She is getting married in October, and her wedding colors are Purple and White.
The swirls mirrored the shower invitation.

It was so great to have our group of friends back together again. We can't wait for the wedding!

OnStage Leadership Logo Cookies

I recently began doing some part-time work with this amazing company that just moved to New York:

OnStage Leadership was founded by former-actress Kimberly Davis, and provides leadership training using a theater model, going from "auditions" to "opening night" all in one day.
So, naturally they need a stage manager, and that's where I come in!
And we all know what makes for a great opening night gift!

Soccer (Sorry, Football) and Beer: Birthday Cookies!

My friend's boyfriend's birthday was yesterday, so she ordered up a unique and personal treat for him!

He plays on a football (he's British) league who's colors are hot pink and black.

And his favorite beer is Weihenstephaner,
so she thought it'd be fun to add a few cookie beer bottles in, too.

I think I did a pretty good adaptation:

And of course, some birthday cakes!

Happy Birthday, Andy!

CHEERS!
